Driving Directions
Approach from the North and East
Traveling west on I-64 take Exit 10 (Calahan) about 2 miles pass Covington. The cabin is about 18 miles from the bottom of the exit ramp. Go left at the bottom of the off ramp onto State route 159 South. (This eventually merges into VA 311 South - the road the cabin is on). When faced with any forks in the road, always keep to the left. About 12 miles from the exit you will pass Hematite Grocery on your right, the cabin is 6.1 miles from here. You will come to a large intersection. Again, stay left on VA 311 South. Next look for a George Washington National Forest sign on your left, the cabin turnoff is 1.2 miles on the left from this sign. When you see a small secondary route sign 600 and a yellow curve-to-the- left sign on your right, you are at the turnoff point for the driveway up to the cabin. The driveway is on your left and you will be basically making a U-turn onto the driveway and start heading up the gravel road. You can't miss the cabin straight ahead.
Approach from the South
When arriving from the south towards the cabin, you will be traveling north along Rt 311. Near the WV-VA border you will pass thru a town named Sweet Chalybeate. This is a very small town, not even a stop light. Once passed Sweet Chalybeate start looking for a sign on your right for rural road 600. The name of this road is also Gravel Ridge Rd. You will pass this and then enter the gravel driveway on your right. This driveway slopes up paralleling the main road. My cabin is straight ahead. If you pass a sign for George Washington Nat'l Forest (on your right) you have gone too far. D
Approaching from the West
When approaching the cabin from the west heading east on I-64. You will pass Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs. The next exit (#183) is for Crows, VA. You will be on VA Rt 311 South. At Crows you will come to a T in the road. Keep heading south on Rt 311 (right at the stop sign). You will pass a George Washington National Forest sign on your left, the cabin turnoff is 1.2 miles on the left from this sign. When you see a small secondary route sign 600 and a left curve sign on your right, you are at the turnoff point for the driveway up to the cabin. The driveway is on your left and you will be basically making a U-turn onto the gravel driveway and start heading up the gravel road. You can't miss the cabin straight ahead.
It is best to arrive during daylight so landmarks are readily visible. And please drive safe!
